About

About Alimentotherapy

Alimentotherapy means treating with food. People have used ginger for nausea, honey for a cough and broth for a cold for as long as there have been kitchens. This site asks the plain question about each one: what happens when it is tested in people? It is written for readers who value traditional food and want the honest answer, including when the answer is “not much”.

Who we are

Pages are written and maintained by the editors of Alimentotherapy. The site is part of Silicon Valley Ventures (SVV), a group of independent reference sites that each cover one subject in depth, several of them on food, farming and ancestral ways of eating.

What we believe about food as medicine

  • Food matters, and so does evidence. Diet patterns have some of the best evidence in nutrition science. Single foods sold as cures mostly do not. We grade each claim separately so both things can be true on one page.
  • Safety is part of the answer. Every remedy page lists who should avoid it, what it does in pregnancy, and the medicine interactions, because “natural” is not the same as harmless.
  • No cures, no detox, no fear. We never say a food cures, treats or prevents a disease, and we do not sell supplements of our own.
  • Sources you can check. Every page cites primary research (PubMed, Cochrane) and government sources (NIH, NCCIH, FDA). We do not run our own trials and never imply that we have.

How we make money

Some links are affiliate links: when you buy through them, the company may pay us a commission. That pays for the site. It does not buy a recommendation, and no company reviews a page before it is published. The full arrangement, partner by partner, is on how we make money.
